NEDA Bicol conducted the second quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) on June 9, 2022 at 9:00am.  This is pursuant to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council and Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Memorandum Nos. 21, and  29, s. 2022, respectively.

The drill was conducted based on the hypothetical scenario of a magnitude 4.7 earthquake in the vicinity of the Albay Gulf:  (1) intensity V (strong) was recorded in the area of Legazpi City; (2)  intense shaking began at 9:00 am that lasted for 15 seconds; (3)  ostrong aftershock took place after 4 minutes; (4) . shaking and rocking were felt throughout the building; (5) hanging objects swing violently; (6)  there were cracked glasses at the Office of the Regional Director and Development Research Division; and (7) there is door blockage in the main entrance. Zero casualty was assumed.

Participants observed the “duck, cover, and hold” procedure and used available tools like protective hats. Health protocols were likewise observed.  An evaluation meeting was conducted to conclude the exercise. Observations highlighted the need to revisit the duties and functions of every staff member during emergencies and the reassignment of some of the members of the emergency response team. Some suggestions were also given on the procurement of foldable ladders, spine board, cravat and hard hats for use during emergency situation.
