In celebration of the 33rd National Statistics Month, the NEDA Region 5 conducted the 1st NEDA Region 5 Statistics Quiz Bee on October 5, 2022 at the RDC Hall, NEDA Region 5, Legazpi City. Ms. Grace C. Torres, Senior Economic Development Specialist of the Project Monitoring and Evaluation Division, emerged as the Champion. She will represent the NEDA Region 5 in the 2nd Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Quiz Bee Regional Elimination Round on October 28, 2022. 

The Board of Judges, ARD Edna Cynthia S. Berces and Ms. Jasmin C. Zantua, award the certificates of recognition and token to the three winners: Ms. Armylene B. Posada (second from left), Ms. Michelle B. Brosas (second from right), and Ms. Grace C. Torres (middle).

Ms. Michelle B. Brosas of the Policy Formulation and Planning Division (PFPD) grabbed the second place, and Ms. Armylene B. Posada of the Project Development, Investment Programming, and Budgeting Division garnered the third place. A total of 12 contestants from the different divisions accepted the challenge in the battle of being the quiz bee champion, except for the Development Research Division staff which served as the quiz bee team. A special award was given to the PFPD for performing the best division cheer.

The quiz bee was composed of three rounds. The first round aimed to enhance familiarity with the statistical aspect of the advocacies of NEDA. The coverage included the AmBisyon Natin 2040, Sustainable Development Goals, and Philippine and Bicol Regional Development Plans 2017 to 2022. The second round aimed to instill awareness on the mandates of the PSA. The coverage included the Philippine

Statistical Act, Philippine Identification System, Community-Based Monitoring System, and Civil Registration and Vital Statistics. The third round aimed to promote awareness and appreciation of the importance of statistics. The coverage included statistical concepts and trivia, and current statistics.

Lastly, the activity enhanced the spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship among NEDA Region 5 employees.
