Two cities in Bicol top as Most Competitive Component Cities in 2016

The National Competitiveness Council (NCC) named the most competitive local government units (LGUs) in the 4th Regional Competitiveness Summit on July 14 at the Philippine International Convention Center, Pasay City.  The event highlights the results of the ranking of all cities and municipalities based on the three pillars of competitiveness: economic dynamism, government efficiency, and infrastructure under the Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI).

For two consecutive years, Naga City secured the most coveted award as the Most Competitive Component City in the country.  From rank ninth in 2013, Naga City stepped up to the third rank in 2014, and emerged as the Most Competitive Component City in 2015 and in 2016.  It also received the awards as first in economic efficiency and in infrastructure, and second in government efficiency.  Joining Naga City in the top three most competitive component city is Legazpi City, landing as third Most Competitive Component City in the country from 15th spot in the previous year.   The City also received awards for being third in government efficiency and in infrastructure.  Sorsogon City also made it to the top 20 from 47th spot in 2015 to 20th place this year.

Among the first to second class municipalities, Daet, Camarines Norte landed in the 17th spot from 14th in 2015.  Daet had been awarded overall Most Competitive Municipality in 2014.  Under the third to sixth class municipality category, Manito, Albay bagged an award as second in economic dynamism and Tigaon, Camarines Sur is ranked 11th overall.  Meanwhile, the provinces of Camarines Sur and Albay are ranked 18th and 19th, respectively under the Most Competitive Provinces in 2016.

The ranking of provinces, cities, and municipalities is an annual undertaking of the NCC, in coordination with 18 Regional Competitiveness Committees, as it recognizes the crucial role of LGUs in promoting competitiveness in the country.  The Bicol Competitiveness Committee is a special committee of the Regional Development Council.
