299 participants attended the forum
In line with the observance of the 2018 Economic and Financial Literacy Week (EFLW), the NEDA Region 5 conducted the Economic and Financial Literacy Regional Forum on November 6 at NEDA regional office in Legazpi City. The forum was attended by around 299 participants composed of students, state workers, media, overseas Filipino organizations and 4Ps beneficiaries.
The annual celebration is pursuant to Republic Act No. 10922 or the Economic and Financial Literacy Act which declares the second week of November of every year as EFLW. This year’s EFLW carries the theme “National Identification for Greater Economic and Financial Inclusion: Sa Pag-angat ng Ekonomiya and Pinansya: Lahat Makakasali, Kapag May Pambansang ID”.
The forum aimed to educate the public on basic economics, financial and monetary concepts, and disseminate information on the Philippine Identification System Act.
Topics discussed include the Philippine National Identification System Demand and Supply, Inflation, Monetary Policies towards Price Stability, New Generation Currencies, and Financial Literacy for the Youth.
Speakers were Assistant Director Richard Emerson D. Ballester of the Trade, Services and Industry Staff, Ms. Sharon B. Moyano and Ms. Paulette Gay S. Mengulla of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas in Legazpi City.

The discussions of the topics and the open forum were interactive and engaging. Based on the evaluations, 91 percent of the respondents agreed that the contents and topics are significant and the activity convinced them that economic and financial literacy is important.
NEDA Region 5 is the first NRO to conduct activity in celebration of the 2018 EFLW.
