The Regional Development Council (RDC) held its third quarter full council meeting on September 18, 2015 at the Pineapple Island Resort in Daet, Camarines Norte. It is the second meeting during the year that was held outside Legazpi City. The second quarter meeting was held in Virac, Catanduanes.
Camarines Norte Governor Edgardo Tallado and Daet Mayor Tito Sarion welcomed the members and guests of the RDC. Governor Tallado credited the RDC for endorsing significant projects in the province, such as the Cory Aquino Boulevard, projects under the DOT-DPWH convergence program, farm-to-market roads, farmers’ trading center, and electrification projects. Mayor Sarion encouraged all local government units in the region to strive harder to get the seal of good local governance and join the ranks of the most competitive cities and municipalities in the country, with the support and assistance of regional government agencies.
Plaques and certificates of commendation were awarded to the following who brought honor to the Bicol Region in national awards held during the year: Naga City as the most competitive independent component city in the country, the cities of Legazpi, Tabaco, Ligao, Iriga, and Sorsogon and the municipalities of Polangui, Daet, and Pili for joining the ranks of the most competitive cities and municipalities in the country; Mr. Ronaldo Reyes of Tabaco National High School and Police Senior Supt. Marlo Meneses of the Albay Police Provincial Office as the 2015 Metrobank Foundation Outstanding Filipinos; and the Albay provincial government as Galing Pook awardee.
The RDC approved the revised comprehensive investment programming guidelines and the 2014 Regional Development Report, which is an assessment of the implementation of the Regional Development Plan. The council endorsed the following projects/programs: (a) Technical Assistance on the Rehabilitation of the Larap Airport in Jose Panganiban, Camarines Norte; (b) Disaster Mitigation Projects in Catanduanes; (c) Inclusive Partnership for Agricultural Competitiveness; (d) Kinamaligan Resettlement Project Phase 3 in Masbate City; and the (e) Abot Alam Program for out-of-school youth.
