Bicol Region hosts 7th RDC PSRs National Convention

The Bicol RDC hosted the Seventh Regional Development Council Private Sector Representatives (RDC PSRs) National Convention on April 26 to 29 at the Oriental Hotel in Legazpi City. With the theme “PSRs in Governance: Moving forward to Sustained and Equitable Growth”, the convention gathered 128 delegates from 14 RDCs in the country to share their initiatives in governance and contribution to national development.

Resource persons were mostly PSRs from RDCs across the country who talked about their engagement with the government in social, economic, and infrastructure development, as well as in development administration. Resource persons from Bicol-based organizations, i.e., Coalition for Bicol Development, Educo, and Naga City People’s Council, also shared their initiatives and accomplishments in governance.

NEDA Deputy Director General Rolando Tungpalan, representing Socio-Economic Planning Secretary and NEDA Director-General Emmanuel Esguerra, highlighted the role of the private sector in nation building. He shared the long term vision of Filipinos for the country and for self, i.e., the Ambisyon Natin 2040, which resulted from a nationwide survey and on which the successor Philippine Development Plan shall be anchored.

The national convention served as a venue, through the parallel session workshops, for RDC PSRs to discuss relevant issues, share initiatives, and recommend actions to overcome constraints to private sector participation in governance such as capacity building in local governance, budget processing, project development, project monitoring and  policy making.

On the last day of the convention, most of the delegates were treated to a tour of Legazpi City and its environs. A number of delegates availed of discounted tour packages to Naga City, where pilgrims converge annually in September to honor Our Lady of Peñafrancia, and Donsol, Sorsogon for an unforgettable Butanding interaction. It is with pleasure and with pride that the Bicol RDC hosted the national convention and showed off Bicol Region’s major tourist attractions to convention delegates from all over the country.
