The Bicol region, led by the Regional Statistical Coordination Committee (RSCC), celebrated the 24th National Statistics Month (NSM) in October with the theme “Statistics that Matter to Every Filipino”. Various activities were conducted to stress the importance of statistics in planning, implementing and monitoring regional development efforts. The activities were participated by those in the government and private sectors, the academe and the general public.
The conduct of the NSM is pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 647. It has the following objectives: (a) to promote, enhance and instill nationwide awareness and appreciation of the importance and value of statistics to the different sectors of the society; and (b) to elicit the cooperation and support of the general public in upgrading the quality and standard of statistics in the country.
The month-long celebration was in line with the Philippine Development Plan’s goal of achieving inclusive growth. Building awareness and appreciation of the significance of statistics increases people’s involvement in the growth process. As the theme depicts, every Filipino has the right to participate in the development process and enjoy the fruits of all development endeavors.
