The Bicol Competitiveness Committee (BCC) core group headed by regional director Jocelyn LB. Blanco of DTI Region 5 conducted a meeting to brief local chief executives in the region on the local government units (LGUs) competitiveness survey in 2014.
The survey aims to assess the LGUs competitiveness on economic dynamism, government efficiency and infrastructure. The survey results will indicate which areas need improvement. The more competitive a city or municipality is, the more investments it can attract.
The 1st competitive ranking of cities and municipalities was conducted by the National Competitiveness Council in 2013. The municipality of Daet, Camarines Norte ranked 4th among the 163 participating municipalities nationwide. The city of Naga ranked 9th among the 122 cities while other cities of the region included in the top 50 competitive cities were: Legazpi City (11th), Masbate City (20th), Tabaco City (43rd), and Sorsogon City (47th).
A total of 13 municipal mayors and 65 representatives from LGUs, the regional offices of DILG, DTI, and NEDA, and BicolUniversity attended the BCC meeting. DTI Region 5 engaged the services of BicolUniversity to conduct the LGU competitiveness survey in 2014.
