The Department of Tourism (DOT) Region 5 hosted this year’s opening ceremony of the 29th National Statistics Month (NSM). It was held last October 1, 2018 at the 3rd Floor, SM City Legazpi with the theme “Exploring Philippine Wonders in Numbers: Statistics Towards Sustainable Tourism Development”. The ceremony included the oath-taking of the Student Tourism Ambassador of Region 5 officers administered by Atty. Emma J. Guillermo. Winners of the mobile photography contest and quiz bowl were also awarded during the occasion.
Dir. Agnes E. Tolentino of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Region 5 and Chairperson of the Regional Statistics Committee (RSC) 5 highlighted in her welcome remarks the importance of statistics in planning, project development, monitoring and evaluation. Director Tolentino said “We want statistics that is accurate. We need to come up with timely and relevant statistics on tourism sector.”
In the same event, the Bicol Regional Statistical Development Program 2018-2023, the local version of the Philippine Statistical Development Program (PSDP) 2018-2023, was launched. The copies of the publication will be provided to the regional line agencies and local government units. Dir. Cynthia L. Perdiz of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Region 5 and Vice Chairperson of the RSC 5 highlighted the PSDP 2018-2023 planning framework taglines “Better statistics. Better policies. Better lives.” and “#StatsPaMore”.
The event was highlighted with the opening of statistical exhibit that will run from October 1 to 3 at 10 am to 9 pm at the 3rd Floor, SM City Legazpi. Joining the exhibit were the NEDA Region 5, PSA Region 5, DOT Region 5, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Legazpi, Department of Health Region 5, Commission on Higher Education Region 5 and the City of Legazpi.
