Bicol Stakeholders Provide Inputs to Water Supply and Sanitation Master Plan

Water supply and sanitation (WSS) stakeholders in the Bicol region gathered on March 20-22 at the Casablanca Hotel in Legazpi City for a consultation workshop on the formulation of the Philippine Water Supply and Sanitation Master Plan (PWSSMP). Among the stakeholders were representatives of local government units (LGUs), water districts, regional line agencies, civil society organizations, and the academe. A total of 66 participants attended the activity, which was facilitated by a team of consultants from the Engineering and Development Corporation of the Philippines (EDCOP), Tractebel Inc., and Orient Integrated Development Consultants, Inc. (OIDCI) who were contracted to craft the PWSSMP.

PWSSMP Consultation

The three-day regional workshop provided a venue for an integrated assessment and participatory planning process to address challenges and attain targets in the WSS sector in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) and the Bicol Regional Development Plan (RDP) 2017-2022. The participants crafted a shared vision for the WSS sector in the region, which is “By 2030, happy and healthy Bicolanos have access to safe, adequate, and sustainable water supply and sanitation services supported by responsible and collaborative stakeholders.” To achieve the vision, priority programs and projects were identified at the regional, provincial, and city levels. The PWSSMP shall serve as a long-term action plan with a corresponding investment and financing program anchored on the SDGs, the PDP and the Bicol RDP 2017-2022. The draft master plan is expected to be completed in July 2018.
