The Bicol Regional Development Council (RDC) Ad Hoc Committee on Advocacy (ComAd) conducted a Speakers Bureau training on July 12 to 13, 2017 at the RDC Hall, NEDA Region 5, Arimbay, Legazpi City. The Speakers Bureau was created by the ComAd to help advocate the Bicol Regional Development Plan (RDP), along with the Ambisyon Natin 2040. It is composed of a multi-sectoral pool of speakers from key regional government agencies, the six provinces in the region, including RDC private sector representatives from each province.
The two-day training aimed to develop effective advocates of the Bicol RDP and Ambisyon Natin 2040 by allowing the participants to enhance their understanding and appreciation of the Bicol RDP and Ambisyon Natin 2040 and to learn or improve techniques and strategies for presenting or delivering key messages with greater impact.
Ms. Marion Abigail N. Valencia of the Print and Broadcast Media Department of the Bicol University College of Arts and Letters served as resource speaker and presented tips on presenting with impact. Mock presentations were conducted by the participants to different audiences, such as local chief executives, academe, youth, civil society/private sector organizations, and business groups. A panel of evaluators critiqued the presentations and gave suggestions for improvement. The evaluators were Mr. Saje Miguel Molato of the youth organization Siklab, Phils., Ms. Marion Abigail N. Valencia and Mr. Anacito E. Dematera of the Bicol University Print and Broadcast Media Department, and NEDA ARD Edna Cynthia S. Berces.
The Speakers Bureau will be tapped to present the Bicol RDP and the Ambisyon Natin 2040 in communities, educational institutions, civil society organizations, and business groups. This is in line with the RDP advocacy plan that was approved by the RDC to raise awareness, elicit support and commitment, and encourage participation in plan implementation, monitoring, and advocacy among regional development partners.
