The Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) represented by Secretary Imelda M. Nicolas and five local government units (LGUs) in Bicol Region signed the memorandum of agreement (MOA) on the localization of the BaLinkBayan last April 01 (Friday) at NEDA Region 5, Arimbay, Legazpi City. The five LGUs are the city governments of Legazpi, Ligao, Tabaco, Masbate and Sorsogon. The MOA signing was held during the second quarter meeting of the Committee on Migration and Development.
The localization of the BaLinkBayan: “Overseas Filipinos’ One-Stop Online Portal for Diaspora Engagement” involves the establishment, development and maintenance of the BaLinkBayan webpage featuring migration and development (M&D) initiatives of partner LGUs. It is a one-stop online portal that connects overseas Filipino individuals and communities to the five cities and serves as a platform to ensure better services to overseas Filipinos and their families.
In her message, Secretary Nicolas noted that Bicol Region is among the first local government units in the country that has recognized the untapped potential of overseas Filipinos and considers migrants as development partners. Mayor Noel Rosal of Legazpi City, representing the partner LGUs, extended his gratitude to CFO for the project that will provide online services to the OFs.
