RDC-PSRs share in the partnership for ASEAN Economic Integration

The Sixth National Convention of the Regional Development Council Private Sector Representatives (RDC-PSRs) was held on October 14 to 16 at Limketkai Luxe Hotel in Cagayan de Oro City. The activity was attended by 173 delegates nationwide. It was an opportunity for RDC-PSRs to express their commitment to contribute as development partners for the ASEAN economic integration.

This year’s theme is “Enhancing Public and Private Partnership in the ASEAN Market” which aimed to improve public-private collaboration toward ensuring inclusive growth in the economic integration of the Association of Southeast Nations (ASEAN) in December 2015.

The Department of Tourism and the Department of Trade and Industry presented the impacts of ASEAN integration and the role of PSRs. With ASEAN integration, the potential of the Philippine industry will be maximized relative to the investments in and from other ASEAN countries since goods are essentially in single and free market with few exceptions and same regulatory requirements will apply on skilled labor movement. The role of PSRs is to enhance the collaboration by pursuing market opportunities to fill-in value chain gaps, participation in collaborative endeavors, promotion of innovation or commercialization, brand awareness and inclusive  business models.

As the event’s highlight, different private institutions such as (1) Rocky Mountain Arabica Coffee Company, (2) Light Rail Manila Corporation, and (3) STEAG State Power Inc., shared their best practices on public-private partnership (PPP). A workshop was conducted to come up with strategies to enhance the role of the private sector in PPP.  Resolution No.1 (s. 2015) was passed “Endorsing the Priority Action Agenda of the RDC-PSRs during the 6th National Convention.”

The convention was graced with presentations on Northern Mindanao’s rich culture and trips to Dahilayan Adventure and Forest Park and Del Monte Club House.

Hosted by Region X RDC-PSRs, the 3-day convention was significant as it raised the level of public service commitment of the delegates nationwide.

The Bicol RDC will be the next host of the Seventh RDC-PSRs National Convention in April 2016.
